Pietro Barbini

Pietro Barbini

Director of Sales and Operations Planning

Born and raised in Murano in 1983, he came into contact with glass at a very young age, gaining his first work experience in the family business, like all his siblings.
After graduating as an industrial technician, driven by multiple interests, he enrolled at Cà Foscari University in Venice, graduating in Philosophy and Humanities.
In the course of his studies he will have a wide variety of work experiences, from crafts to transportation, from commerce to press officer, concluding with a six-year experience at the Fondazione la Biennale di Venezia, where he will have the opportunity to come into direct contact with the art world.
In 2014 he officially joined the company, taking charge, from the very beginning, of the commercial and the very image of the historic company, making substantial changes, which are still ongoing.
At the same time, his passion for the art of glass, which has grown over the years, prompts him to delve, day after day, into the history and various stages of Venetian mirror making.

Nicola Barbini,

Nicola Barbini,

Engraver

Son of Vincenzo, born in 1990, to date he is the youngest glass engraver around in Murano.
After compulsory schooling, he attended the ““Giovanni Paolo II” classical high school in Venice. In 2009, after obtaining his classical high school diploma, driven by a particular attraction for glass and an innate artistic sensibility, he decided to join the family business, “Artigianato Artistico Veneziano snc,” now “AAV Barbini srl,” one of the oldest Murano firms, still in business, specializing in the production of Venetian mirrors and engraved glass furniture.
Upon joining the company, he began to learn the various stages of working with Venetian mirror, but, from the very beginning, he would find in the “lathe” the proper tool to externalize all his creativity.
He would later refine his engraving technique at the studio of master Luigi Cammozzo.
Today he is the company’s first engraver. Over the years he will specialize in engravings, as well as on mirrors, on plates, vases, bottles, sculptures, and any other type of artifact, as long as it is glass!
The desire to experiment and broaden his knowledge of cold glass-making prompted him to deepen and refine, day after day, the technique of “wrought glass,” a type of workmanship that had always fascinated him, achieving good results right from the start.

From 2018 he began to join, personally, group exhibitions, dedicated to the art of glass, exhibiting real one-of-a-kind pieces. In 2018 he participated in the 47th GAS Conference, held in Murano, making two singular performances. In 2019 he will be featured in the docu-film “The Engravers,” made by the InMurano Association, where the historic Salir company and the new generation of Barbini are compared. In 2023, he will be invited to Tokyo by Mitsukoshi, Japan’s most famous and oldest department store, where he will give demonstrations on the art of engraving during the “Italian Fair,” marking its 350th anniversary.

Silvering

Son of Giovanni, born in Murano in 1987, began working at the company in 2004.
A graduate of the G. Parini Technical Institute for Surveyors, like all his siblings, he came into contact with the world of glass at a young age, working, during summer breaks, both in the family business and in some local furnaces.
To this day he knows to perfection all stages of Venetian mirror making, from grinding to mounting, specializing, in particular, in silvering, that process by which a transparent sheet is transformed into a mirror, as well as in imitating antique mirrors.

Marco Barbini

Marco Barbini

Cutting, engraver and glass fusing

Son of Vincenzo, he was born in Murano in 1984. Like all his siblings, he learned about glass at a young age at the family business.
His love for art prompted him to enroll in the Liceo Artistico in Venice, where he graduated in 2003; he later attended the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Venice, enrolling in the painting course.
After a long period where he will do a wide variety of work experiences, in 2017 he approached the art of glass engraving, attending private lessons at the studio of master Luigi Cammozzo.

In January 2018, he will officially join the AAV Barbini srl team as an engraver.

His entry into the company will immediately bring greater quality to production, thanks to his manual dexterity and technical knowledge; his ability to move from drawing to painting, even to sculpture, with such ease and naturalness that only a fervent passion and innate skill make possible, make him an almost complete craftsman.

Currently in the company he is involved in glass-fusing and Water-jet cutting, as well as engraving and mounting.

After graduating he will immediately work as an electrician, then as a plumber and finally as a furniture fitter, at several local companies.
In January 2018, he officially joined the AAV Barbini srl team as a grinder, immediately showing excellent learning skills and, above all, a great predisposition to the department assigned to him.
To this day he works steadily in the milling department, supported by his father John who, day after day, passes on all his knowledge.
